3PL & fulfillment glossary
Plain-language definitions of the logistics, compliance, and ecommerce terms that show up most in supplement, beauty, and DTC operations.
3PL Fulfillment
Third-party logistics fulfillment — outsourcing the receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping of ecommerce orders to a specialized provider rather than handling fulfillment in-house.
MoCRA
The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 — the first major expansion of FDA authority over cosmetics since 1938. It adds facility registration, product listing, safety substantiation, adverse-event reporting, records access, and mandatory-recall authority for cosmetic products sold in the US.
cGMP
Current Good Manufacturing Practice — the FDA quality system requirements for facilities that receive, store, handle, or process supplements, food, drugs, and cosmetics. A cGMP-compliant 3PL is one whose receiving, storage, and pick-pack operations meet FDA cGMP standards.
